League’s matchmaking is largely determined by Matchmaking Rating or MMR. MMR is a number that Riot uses to determine your skill, and when matchmaking, the skill of your opponents. Everyone’s MMR starts at the same point when playing a queue for the first time. It goes up when you win, and goes down when you lose.
How long does it take to queue in League of Legends?
Usually, the in-queue time for a normal match will be under 1 minute, and 3-5 minutes for a ranked one, depending on your elo. If you are a Master, Grandmaster, or Challenger, the period of time required for a match will be approximately 10 minutes.
Why does lol take so long to find a match?
Because matchmaking avoid matching you with the general population level 30+ and probably avoid matching you with smurfs. There are not a lot of real new players to match you with in a timely manner. Once you hit level 25-30+, you’ll be thrown into the general player pool so queue time will vastly improve for you.
