It is possible that Olimar is not dead, only unconscious, thus creating the hybrid. The result of this bad ending is possibly referenced in Pikmin 3, as one of Olimar’s ship logs in a Data File stated that he had a nightmare that the Pikmin dragged him into their Onion after being injured by a creature.
