It may be faulty. That would keep it from starting in gear because it doesnt think you are pulling in the clutch. When it is in neutral you dont have to be pulling in the clutch so it will start right up. If the kickstand sensor is bad it should not start in gear AND die when you kick it into gear.

Can you let go of clutch in first gear motorcycle?

The best way to learn this is to start the bike up. Then, without giving the bike any gas and when the bike is in first gear, slowly let out the clutch lever until the motor begins to slow down but the bike still isn’t moving. When doing this, you don’t even move, and you also don’t want to stall the motor.

When should you be in first gear motorcycle?

In a very slow corner or at parking lot speeds where you do need to ride in first gear to prevent the engine from stalling, it would be easy to grab neutral if it was right at the bottom. By placing 1st gear below neutral, you don’t have to think about it or rely on a gear selector light (which many bikes don’t have).

Why is neutral after first gear on a motorcycle?

As stated in other responses, neutral is in the position between 1st and 2nd gear as a form of logic and safety. In a sequential transmission the sensibility of placing neutral between 3rd and 4th gears creates user difficulty in getting to desired gears after stopping.

Start the engine, and while squeezing the clutch, push the shift lever into first. Very slowly release the clutch lever until the motorcycle starts moving. This is the engagement point. To start riding in first gear, keep releasing the clutch slowly while adding throttle in a similar, gradual manner.
