Possible side effects of Kliofem

  • Gut disturbances, such as nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence, indigestion.
  • Menstrual bleeding or spotting.
  • Vaginal thrush.
  • Increase in the size of uterine fibroids.
  • Breast pain, tenderness or enlargement.
  • Fluid retention, causing swelling (oedema).

What type of HRT is Kliofem?

Kliofem® is a continuous combined Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) which is taken every day without interruption. Kliofem® is used in postmenopausal women with at least 1 year since their last natural period.

Do you have periods on Kliofem?

Kliofem does not cause a regular monthly period. After a 3-4 months settling in period, the majority of women have no bleeding or only occasional spotting. Bleeding or spotting does often occur in the first few months until the treatment settles down.

What’s the best HRT to take?

There are two ways of taking it: cyclical combined HRT is best if you have menopausal symptoms and still have periods. This involves having a gap between taking progestogen for a period of time. Continuous combined HRT is recommended if you are post-menopausal and have not had a period for a year.

Is Kliofem the same as Kliovance?

As you can see, the Kliovance dosage of hormones is much lower than in other HRT treatments. A similar combined continuous HRT called Kliofem contains 2mg of estradiol (as estradiol hemihydrate) and 1mg of norethisterone acetate — double the Kliovance dose.
