There exists an inverse process to pair production called pair annihilation, in which a particle and its antiparticle collide and annihilate each other, the total energy of the two particles appearing as electromagnetic radiation.

What is annihilation process?

annihilation, in physics, reaction in which a particle and its antiparticle collide and disappear, releasing energy. The most common annihilation on Earth occurs between an electron and its antiparticle, a positron.

What is annihilation and pair production?

The conversion of a photon into an electron-positron pair on its interaction with the strong electric field surrounding a nucleus is called pair production. The converse of pair production in which an electron and positron combine to produce two photons is known as annihilation of matter.

What is pair production in radiation?

Pair production is a direct conversion of radiant energy to matter. To produce two electrons, therefore, the photon energy must be at least 1.02 MeV. Photon energy in excess of this amount, when pair production occurs, is converted into motion of the electron-positron pair.

What is difference between photoelectric effect and photovoltaic effect?

Photovoltaic effect is the generation of an electric current in a substance when exposed to light. The main difference between Photoelectric Effect and Photovoltaic Effect is that in Photoelectric Effect the electrons are emitted to open space whereas in Photovoltaic Effect the electrons enter a different material.

Why don t quarks and antiquarks annihilate?

Particles only annihilate with their antiparticles if they are in the same quantum state. If they are in similar but not the same quantum state, for example one “spin up”, one “spin down”, they can form a meson particle bond.

What is the difference between annihilation and pair production?

Annihilation and pair production are two processes involve the transformation between wave and particles. Annihilation is the transformation from particles to waves or the conversion of the potential-time-energy to the kinetic-time-energy.

What is photon pair production?

PAIR PRODUCTION:- An the process of pair production the energy carried by a photon is completely converted into matter, resulting in the creation of an electron positron pair, >Except for its charge, a positron is identical in all ways to an electron.

What is annianhilation radiation?

ANNIHILATION RADIATION:- The positron created as a result of pair production loses its energy as it traverses the matter by the same type of interaction as an electron does namely by ionization, excitation and bremsstrahlung.

What is pair production?

Pair production is the transformation from waves to particles, or the conversion of the kinetic-time-energy to the potential-time-energy. The annihilation process gives a very good hint to the nuclear physics and the pair production process gives a very good hint to the ingredients of mass.
