EcoCyc is a bioinformatics database that describes the genome and the biochemical machinery of E. coli K-12 MG1655. The long-term goal of the project is to describe the molecular catalog of the E. coli cell, as well as the functions of each of its molecular parts, to facilitate a system-level understanding of E. coli.

What is Keio collection?

The Keio collection (Baba et al, 2006) has been established as a set of single-gene deletion mutants of Escherichia coli K-12. These mutants have a precisely designed deletion from the second codon from the seventh to the last codon of each predicted ORF.

How many genes are in E. coli?

4,000 genes
The E. coli genome consists of about 4,600,000 base pairs and contains approximately 4,000 genes.

What is E. coli MG1655?

MG1655 is the strain chosen by the Blattner group for the first published sequence of a wild-type laboratory strain of E. coli K-12. Although MG1655 was chosen for having few genetic manipulations from the archetypal E. coli K-12 strain, most strains used in E.

How do you read E. coli genotype?

Genes: In E. coli, the genotype only includes the genes that carry a loss of function mutation. The gene name is listed as three-letters in lower case and italics (DNA methylase is written as dam). Different genes affecting the same function/pathway are identified with different uppercase italic letters.

What is E coli MG1655?

Has E. coli genome been sequenced?

In September 1997, the complete genome sequence of Escherichia coli was published. coli used for the sequencing project is not a pathogen (that is, it does not cause disease). However, some strains of E.

What is EcoCyc 1?

EcoCyc 1 is a bioinformatics database that describes the genome and the biochemical machinery of E. coli K-12 MG1655. The long-term goal of the project is to describe the molecular catalog of the E. coli cell, as well as the functions of each of its molecular parts, to facilitate a system-level understanding of E. coli .

What is EcoCyc E coli?

EcoCyc E. coli Database. EcoCyc is a scientific database for the bacterium Escherichia coli K-12 MG1655. The EcoCyc project performs literature-based curation of its genome, and of transcriptional regulation, transporters, and metabolic pathways.

What can EcoCyc do for You?

Transcriptional regulation and operon organization: EcoCyc contains the most complete description of the regulatory network of any organism, including E. coli operons, promoters, transcription factors, transcription-factor binding sites, attenuators, and small-RNA regulators.
