Unstable angina is a condition in which your heart doesn’t get enough blood flow and oxygen. It may lead to a heart attack. Angina is a type of chest discomfort caused by poor blood flow through the blood vessels (coronary vessels) of the heart muscle (myocardium).

What is prinzmetal angina?

Prinzmetal’s angina. This type of angina is caused by a sudden spasm in a coronary artery, which temporarily narrows the artery. This narrowing reduces blood flow to your heart, causing severe chest pain. Prinzmetal’s angina most often occurs at rest, typically overnight. Attacks tend to occur in clusters.

What is pseudo angina pectoris?

n. 1. chest pain that resembles the pain (angina pectoris) of a heart attack but for which there is no clinical evidence of heart disease.

What is microvascular angina pectoris?

Coronary MVD is heart disease that affects the heart’s smallest coronary artery blood vessels. Causes of microvascular angina: Spasms within the walls of these very small arterial blood vessels causes reduced blood flow to the heart muscle leading to a type of chest pain referred to as microvascular angina.

What is the difference between angina and unstable angina?

Stable and unstable angina Stable angina is when you get angina symptoms during moderate physical activity or when you are pushing yourself physically. These symptoms go away with rest and/or medication. Unstable angina is when you get angina symptoms while doing very little or resting.

What is unstable angina caused by?

Blood clots that block an artery partially or totally are what causes unstable angina. Blood clots may form, partially dissolve, and later form again and angina can occur each time a clot blocks blood flow in an artery.

What are the symptoms of prinzmetal angina?

The main symptom of Prinzmetal’s variant angina is recurring episodes of chest pain (angina) that usually occur when a person is at rest, during bedtime hours (around midnight to 8am). Some people report feeling “discomfort” rather than “pain.” In some people, pain may spread to the neck, jaw, shoulder, or arm.

How is cervical angina treated?

Treatment is tailored to the pathology, but often times responds to a three-month period of conservative methods; anti-inflammatory medications, traction, isometric exercises or a cervical collar. Some patients will benefit from surgical decompression and/or cervical fusions, depending upon the pathology present.

What is coronary microvascular disease?

Coronary microvascular disease (sometimes called small artery disease or small vessel disease) is heart disease that affects the walls and inner lining of tiny coronary artery blood vessels that branch off from the larger coronary arteries.

How to diagnose unstable angina?

There are several tests your doctor may order to help confirm whether you have angina: Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG). Each beat of your heart is triggered by an electrical impulse generated from special cells in your heart. An electrocardiogram records these electrical signals as they travel through your heart.

What causes unstable angina?

The principal cause of unstable angina is coronary heart disease caused by a buildup of plaque along the walls of your arteries. The plaque causes your arteries to narrow and become rigid. This reduces the blood flow to your heart muscle. When the heart muscle doesn’t have enough blood and oxygen, you feel chest pain.

What is unstable angina pectoris?

Angina pectoris and unstable angina is a condition of the coronary arteries – the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. When the heart is not receiving sufficient blood supply because of the narrowing of the coronary arteries – this causes pain referred to as “angina”.

Can you die from angina?

There is no permanent damage in case of angina. Summary. • Both angina and myocardial infarction are problems related with heart. • In both cases, blood supply to heart is blocked. • While angina is temporary, MI is permanent. • Angina is less severe health problem but MI can even cause death.
