What weight paper for embossing?

Embossing. For embossing, you want to use card that’s sturdy enough to hold the shape of your design, particularly if you want to do some 3D embossing. Thin paper just won’t have enough body and could even get damaged, so we recommend using cardstock between 220GSM – 280GSM (80lbs – 110lbs cover weight).

What kind of paper is best for embossing?

In short, the best kind of paper for embossing is cardstock. Every embossing method can be used on cardstock, so it is the safest choice. Textured paper, drawing paper, and cotton paper can be used for heat embossing and regular embossing.

Do you need special paper for embossing?

We recommend using a light-medium weight cardstock for dry embossing, such as a 65 lb. or 80 lb. cover-weight stock.

How do you emboss without a heat gun?

A Toaster, an electric stove, an iron, or a curling iron can be used to melt the embossing powder. Simply apply the embossing powder to the paper or cardboard and then carefully hold the powder close to the heating element, without touching it, to melt it.

What is dry embossing?

Dry embossing, also called relief embossing, is done by tracing a stencil with a special tool called a stylus. The result is a raised pattern on the object you are embossing. Hand embossing is ideal only for small projects, such as a greeting card or place cards for a single table setting.

What’s the difference between embossing and debossing?

Both methods use metal plates to press or imprint your design into the product you’re customizing. Embossing results in a design that’s raised up from the surrounding material, and debossing results in a design that’s stamped down or recessed into the surrounding material.

What is the difference between a pocket embosser and a desk embosser?

Desktop embossers are larger than pocket units and are meant to stay in the office. They are robust and have a sturdy metal frame for embossing large numbers of documents in quick succession, like in a college admissions office or at a notary public.

Does a hair dryer work for embossing?

You’ll need a heat gun to finish your embossing. There were rumors floating around that a blow dryer would suffice, but I’m here to tell you that a blow dryer does NOT work for embossing. It blows too much hair and it does not get hot enough to properly melt the powder.
